Nursing School Year One Flashcards are to help the nursing student achieve success. During your first two years in the nursing curriculum, you take a combination of liberal arts and science courses, as well as courses in basic nursing theory and clinical skills. In the first year you will learn practice skills through a mix of practice placments and “simulation”. Simulation is used by universities as a way of reflecting on real-life situations. It allows for a variety of clinical skills to be taught and practised in a realistic and safe environment before you practice these skills on actual patients. The journey to becoming a nurse can be challenging and hard work, but it is also a time when you will grow as a person, meet some amazing people and, hopefully, have a lot of fun. Most programs are rigorous and demanding from the very first day to the last. Students who do not have good study skills and time management skills may perish.
